What a strange day it had been! Thunder and lightning suddenly appeared on a clear day and hit Ryan right on the forehead. Concerned, he went to the hospital to get checked out, but the doctor assured him that he was perfectly fine and didn't need any treatment. As Ryan headed home, even stranger things began to occur. He somehow acquired a special ability called the divine eye, which allowed him to see through illusions and predict both good and bad luck. Deciding to keep a low profile but still stand out, he becomes a master at city life and gains a legendary reputation among the people!
"Doctor, I was struck by lightning, how could I possibly be okay? You're not joking with me, are you?"
"Sir, you really are alright. Please leave the hospital and stop wasting public resources."
The attending doctor impatiently shook off Ryan Watts's hand and walked away after saying that
"Doctor..."
Ryan tries to catch up but is stopped by two security guards and thrown out of the hospital.
"Damn it, are doctors all so perfunctory these days?"
Ryan cursed as he picked himself up from the ground.
What a crazy day it had been, thunder and lightning out of nowhere on a clear day, hitting him straight on the forehead.
To the uninitiated, he must've done something so terribly wrong that even the gods couldn't stand him and sent down lightning to kill him.
But when he was brought to the hospital, it turned out... nothing was wrong with him!
"Darn it, God, is this your idea of a prank?!"
Ryan looked up at the sky and shouted.
After venting, Ryan calmed down. Maybe someone next to him at that moment was a heinous villain, and the divine lightning meant to punish him accidentally got blocked by Ryan.
Later, realizing the mistake, the Heaven let him off scot-free.
Of course, this was what Ryan told himself to feel better, otherwise, there's no explaining how he could survive a lightning strike. It's simply unscientific.
That chief doctor was too perfunctory. Rather than deeply studying such a medical marvel, he just drove him away. Such a lack of discernment!
"Well, just let nature take its course. If fate really wants my life, I wouldn't be able to escape it anyway."
Ryan comforted himself.
"Ryan!"
Just as Ryan was beginning to relax, he suddenly heard someone call his name. Upon turning his head, it was his girlfriend Cynthia Snow.
"Cynthia…"
Ryan was overjoyed, just about to say something, but then he noticed a man standing next to Cynthia. He frowned and asked, "What're you doing here?"
The man standing next to Cynthia was named Vincent Chambers. He was a co-worker of Cynthia, but a playboy who often harassed female colleagues at the company.
Ryan was puzzled. Why would Cynthia come with a guy like him?
"I heard you were hit by lightning. Well, didn't it give you any troubles yet?"
Before Cynthia could even speak, Vincent took two steps forward and asked with a smirk on his face.
"It seems like you've been eating crap, otherwise, why would your mouth be so foul?"
Ryan glared at Vincent coldly, then reached out to grasp Cynthia's hand.
However, Cynthia refused and stood still.
"Cynthia…"
Ryan looked at Cynthia in confusion, only to see her looking quite uneasy. After a moment of silence, Cynthia said, “Ryan, let's break up.”
"What?" Ryan was utterly surprised.
"I accepted Vincent's pursuit yesterday, and from now on, I'll belong to him." Cynthia added at this point.
"You... accepted this playboy?" Ryan looked seriously at Vincent standing aside, who appeared quite smug. Vincent stepped forward, and wrapped his arm around Cynthia's waist, seemingly declaring his ownership to Ryan.
"Ryan, you should bless us. Cynthia is better off with me than with a good-for-nothing like you." Vincent laughed heartily, looking very pleased with himself.
Ryan clenched his fists, his heart aching like it was being cut with a knife.
Cynthia, his girlfriend. They once swore under the heavens to be together forever, to grow old together. But now he was being betrayed by her!
"Cynthia, why did you accept Vincent?" Ryan couldn't accept that he was dumped without a clear reason!
Although he didn't make much money, he always treated Cynthia with the utmost care, as if she were a fragile piece of glass that might break at any moment, or melt away if held in his mouth.
Could a sincere man like him really not match up to a playboy?
Ryan was on the receiving end of Cynthia's silence when he pursued an answer.
"Ryan," Vincent scoffed, "You probably don't even know. My father is the chairman of our company!"
Ryan was shocked, but soon he thought that if Vincent's father was not the chairman, he wouldn't dare to blatantly harass his female colleagues.
"Ryan, you're just a weakling compared to me. Be smart, stay away from Cynthia in the future, or I'll ask my dad to fire you!" Vincent was very arrogant, poking Ryan's forehead as he spoke.
Ryan looked at him indifferently, wanting to take him down there and then - but after a second thought, even if he did, there was no future for him and Cynthia.
Thinking of this, Ryan clenched both his fists, forcing himself to calm down.
Seeing Ryan dare not to retort, Vincent became even more triumphant, continuing to mock, "Ryan, let me tell you something else, just because I didn't like you, I intentionally made your woman mine to make a fool out of you!"
"You!"
"In the company, everyone likes you, dodging me as if I'm a plague. Do you know how much I hate you? Even though I'm bad, I won’t allow anyone to be better than me!" Vincent bellowed.
He couldn’t stand anyone being stronger than him, or being liked more than him in the company.
At first, Ryan was very angry, but after hearing Vincent's words, he actually calmed down.
"There is not only Cynthia in this world, if you like her, you can have her, I'm already bored of her anyway." The other party was just jealous of him. The more he cared, the more arrogant they would become.
"If that's the case, why should he care?
"You! Ryan, I annouce now, you're fired by the company!"
Vincent roared almost manically.
"Doesn't matter, I didn't want the job anyway!"
Ryan flashed a cold smile.
After this incident, he could not continue to work in the company anyway.
"Well, wait and see!"
Vincent, dragging Cynthia with him, was about to leave. After two steps, he turned back and dropped a fierce threat: "Ryan, not only I will make you unable to stay in the company, but also in the entire Mingbeaupr, you won't be able to find a job!"
Hearing this, Ryan laughed heartily, the sound full of scorn.
"Vincent, you think you're someone important? You're merely a bug in the gutter. You dare to strut around here, and this happens to be a hospital, so how about having a brain check while you're at it?"
Ryan dropped that line and laughed even louder.
Vincent darkened his face, he had wanted to thoroughly humiliate Ryan, but ended up being subjected to his continuous ridicule.
"Damn it, I'm gonna kill you today!"
Vincent charged at Ryan with his fists swinging.
Ryan, very calm, effortlessly dodged and pushed Vincent, making him crash heavily into the wall.
In truth, Vincent was tall and burly, standing even taller than Ryan.
However, he'd immersed himself in the allure of beauty and alcohol for many years and had been weak. As a result, a mere push from Ryan led him to topple to the ground.
"With a body like yours, you ought to see the doctor more often. Be careful you might overexert yourself in bed one day and get the ultimate pleasure, which would lead you straight to the Underworld."
Ryan sneered.
Suddenly though, he felt as if something was drilling into his head, causing severe pain.
"Ah!"
Ryan screamed and fell to the ground.
